A word from Haiti

Hi all,

We are tired but the trip has been well worth it.  The children have been a complete joy and I have fallen absolutely in love with every one of them.  Steve and Jack, after a rough first day, have bloomed and have been a great benefit to the children here.  It is fun to watch children play with each other even though there is a language barrier.  There is great need here, but the culture is wonderful.  Every Haitian smiles and even though they have little (as far as what we consider little) they have great joy.  Becca and Deni have conducted health care visits on each child and overall it is a good report, although some sad.  We cleared an area out for a garden yesterday and a wall is being built to block off the area.  After the wall is built dirt will be brought in for top soil.  Drew and Zeb helped me with this and got to deal with the local Haitian children not from the orphanage.  They are amazed with the blanc (whites) and how our hair feels and how our skin feels.  They are very sweet.  I will warn you that when I come back I will be pushing for a water sanitation system to be built.  The kids health depends on this.  (It's only money :) )  They have to be treated because of the water several times a year for worms and such.  (Usually every 3 months).  Figuring out a better system for the garbage is the next thing that I will talk to Crystal and Pastor Yves about.  Rats run all over the area.  We need to get this cleaned and have regular trash removal...please pray.  Please pray for the translators who have been fantastic.    Love you all.  Steve
