more photos

Here are more photos - from Saturday.  Carol organized and did inventory of all the supplies while Kevin started building storage shelves for the storage room and worked on the Montero with Redgi-

Carol working on organizing the supplies-

Redgi (the "boss mechanic") climbed into the Montero to help work on the engine-

Kevin coming in for dinner after a LONG day's work

Kevin being silly with the spark plugs- you had to take the WHOLE engine apart to do the spark plugs...

The guys working on the Montero- (by the way- we are probably going to sell it after I leave for the summer.  Kevin says it is smart cause it has almost 200,000 miles and is a 1997 - "unload it" now before it starts to have serious troubles.  Will you join us in prayer to see if you would like to donate toward purchasing and shipping something newer? )

Kevin and James working on building shelves.  Kevin got all the wood cut while we had electricity so they are just ready to be nailed  :)

Video

Here's a short video of playing with the children on Thursday... what FUN we had with these little ones- teaching them "tag".....

(I hope it loads for you- it's not long, but it's cute)  :)  :)

Photos

Here are the photos I promised... using my computer again- the other one doesn't work well enough!  I need to buy a GOOD one when I get home...

The hospital in Mirbalais - where we spent all of Monday, Tuesday and part of Wed. before the team came.

We did get to see the girls in Mirbalais and their family.  He made me cry when he LOADED us up with about 2 dozen ears of freshly cut corn and 30 avacados.  They barely have enough to eat themselves and live in such a remote location, yet he gave us all that food to take home.  We are blessed indeed

The medical center north of St. Marc- where we served for Thursday

Allison playing with the children- making them feel comfortable with medical equipment and care

Redgi building an airplane for the kids to play with

This man had eye troubles- we met him earlier in the day on a walk so we took the medical team over to see him later.

Allison looks at a baby with sores on her body

Kevin has already done a TON of work on the Montero- this was flushing the radiator.  He has also looked at two washing machines at the hospital in Carrefour and a generator at Pastor Robby's church

Carol teaching a lesson on how to be a "fisher of men" like Jesus taught Peter and Andrew.

Kevin with Widline-  the sponsored child of a friend.  She is one of the most adorable girls at the orphanage.

Sarah cleaned and dressed a sore on Lorvencia's foot.  It was so hot the past few days- we are all sweating which doesn't make for the best photos, but we got what we could.

Day 1

First full day for the team (Kevin and Carol).  We went about 2 hours north of Port au Prince to a town just beyond St. Marc and helped a bit with a medical clinic that Allison and Sarah were doing with Dr. Carl.  It was FANTASTIC!  Carol is amazing with the children and Kevin jumped right in- sitting up front in the car and talking to Redgi about vehicle maintenance and other things.... Here are a few photos- just so you can see what we did.  I will try to get the team to update a bit too with their impressions and experiences.  :)  I also have a GREAT video of the team playing "tag" with Haitian children (or attempting to teach them how to play it)... Thanks for the prayers- keep them coming.  Today we will split into groups and then go to the orphanage together later.  This morning we will go to the maternity hospital in Carrefour (the four girls) and work on the car a bit (the guys).

(photos later- sorry ... having computer issues AGAIN)

Haiti Craziness!

Sorry I have not updated and I only have about 3 minutes to complete this update now cause we are all leaving for a medical clinic today in St. Marc but we wanted you to know we are all fine!  Here's a recap for those of you worried...

Sat. 8/3 I met Redgi on the way to the airport to drop off the team leaving.  He had already been to the airport and picked up 2 new people- interns with my Haitian doctor for the next 3 weeks.  We switched vehicles and I drove them home while he proceeded to the airport with the team to see them off.  Meanwhile, the interns and I came here (their names are Allison and Sarah) and we got settled, worked on receipts, sorted laundry, got an orientation, met with the doctor to plan their internship, etc.... CRAZY!

Sun- We all hung around the house and rested, visited the local orphanage, bought phone minutes, etc...

Mon- I left at 5 am to drive to the city to meet Redgi to take a friend to the new Hospital in Mirbaliais where I was in for quite an introduction to Haitian health care (like I didn't have that already with Jean Bernard).... I will post more later, but suffice it to say we ended up spending 2.5 days there waiting and seeing different people.  Overall, I was VERY VERY impressed with the facilities and technology.  This is a Paul Farmer hospital (Partners in Health) so it is very well equipped and they consult with Boston weekly about all cases.  So, I think we will get good care in the end- it's just a LOT of waiting and trying to see people.

Yesterday I was to meet with the insurance company again but never got there- praise God the man who hit me is being so patient.  We are still talking about $500 to $700 more at least to fix the Montero and we put $750 into it so far.  That's a "Haitian fix" too.... just pulling on some stuff and making it so the doors close, etc... Kevin (my mechanic friend) is here now so he can see what he thinks needs to be done.

We picked up the new group yesterday and they are well- dinner at E'pidor and we got organized/situated well.  Not much power lately apparently but we are making due.  Water tank is about empty.  :'(

I will write more later since I DID get Kevin to bring a new computer down (mine was acting stupid- virus I am sure).... Thanks for the prayers.

Our last day

Today is the last day of our ten day trip here in this beautiful country and I am sad it is coming to an end. We have built many great relationships with our neighbors, Madame Esther and her children and the children in the country side. I know I will miss all very much.

Yesterday we spent our last day in the country side village. We were determined to hike to a house that stuck out on top of the mountain. Our hike there was awesome with such great views of Gods beautiful land. When we got to the house no one was there, but we were able to stop and talk to many other families along way.

For the CCC team, Crystella is feeling so much better! She is playing with the other children and is all smiles! Her mother is so thankful for the medicine we gave her.

We are now off the say goodbye the the children at Madame Esther's and give our letters to the children we bonded with. Then we will be going to hang out on the beach and go shopping at the Deli Mart.

See you all soon!!!
Love,
Megan
